Shetland's midsummer festival, Johnsmas Foy, is set to run from 19th-28th June 2009. Centuries ago 'Johnsmas' marked the annual arrival of the Dutch herring fishing fleet in Shetland and it also has strong links with the Haaf fishing, both of which are central to our heritage.
The foy is a celebration of Shetland's culture, heritage and natural history and next year there will be a Viking theme.
While many of the events will centre around the theme, these will be complemented by a range of other midsummer events taking place throughout Shetland. Please go to www.johsnmasfoy.com for a full event listing.
