VisitShetland, Market Cross, Lerwick, Shetland, ZE1 0LU, UK
Classes are taught by ear and are split into 4 sections,
1. Absolute beginners,
"I had never even played the fiddle before I came to Fiddle Frenzy. Now I will hopefully be going back to learn my pupils Shetland fiddle tunes".
2. Slow (learning by ear)
"I picked up the fiddle for the first time in Feb. 06 ... I did not expect in the folk world that vital fiddling principles would be embraced/respected but they were. My greatest fear was that they wouldn't be, but I had no need to fear. Thank You!"
3. Medium
"all tuition I received was to a very high standard with sensitivity shown by the tutors"
and of course
4.Fast
"Just to meet and speak with some of your fantastic musicians that we'd only seen at a distance before, let alone learn from and perform with them, was a quite terrific experience for us".
When booking the course we ask you to grade yourself to one of the above classes but after registration on the first day you get a chance to re-grade yourselves at the workshops when you can experience the speed of teaching. Learning by ear is the aim of the school but written music can be provided on request but we will give you music for the tunes you have learned in your departure packs.
The Lerwick workshops are based in Islesburgh Community Centre an ideal historic venue in the heart of the town. www.islesburgh.org.uk
