A Session in The Lounge
For the visitor to Shetland who wants to hear some of this world renowned traditional music in an informal setting, there are now plenty of opportunities, thanks to the award-winning Simmer'n Sessions.
The joint initiative, operated by Shetland Arts Trust and Visit Shetland, was set up in 1999 to guarantee access to what we always knew existed - great informal sessions - and to provide ready access for the visitor who didn't know where to find them.
The initiative has greatly increased visitor access to Shetland's music by creating regular traditional music sessions in several local pubs and hotels throughout the islands during the tourist season. Additional concerts featuring local music and dance are also arranged on visiting cruise ships and special events such as 'Up-Helly-Aa' in January and the 'Shetland Race' in June.
