Sports facilities in Shetland

Clickimin Leisure Complex
Clickimin Leisure Complex

Wherever you go in Shetland you’re never far from fitness and fun thanks to the Shetland Recreational Trust.

There’s nothing quite like the Shetland Recreational Trust anywhere else. Since 1985 the trust has built up an impressive network of 8 leisure facilities within easy reach of the vast majority of Shetland’s 22,000 population - and the thousands of visitors who are astonished at the quality and quantity of recreation facilities at the northern tip of Britain.

The idea behind the Shetland Recreational Trust was to use some of Shetland’s oil revenue to provide ‘facilities for whole communities to meet, socialise and play. They will be a major attraction for local residents and will be important facilities in the attraction of tourists’.

Shetlanders and visitors alike have responded by flocking to the facilities. Usage levels are much higher than anyone expected - almost 750,000 visits were recorded for the period 2004/2005 – proving just how exceptional our facilities are.

We look forward to welcoming you and your family to our facilities, seven days a week.

Clickimin Leisure Complex

Built in three phases at a cost of £16 million, the light and airy buildings on the shores of the Clickimin Loch house a magnificent 25-metre pool with flumes, river ride, giant bubble pool, toddlers’ pool and outdoor lagoon! You can also relax in the comfort of our health suite that contains a sauna, steam room, spa pool, C.V. equipment and toning chairs. The dry facility hosts a variety of popular sports and leisure activities, with the main 6-court sports hall, a bowls hall, multi-use studio, and state-of-the-art squash courts and Apex fitness centre. After a hard workout you can relax with friends in the bar and café. Outside the complex have fine sports pitches and a newly refurbished athletics arena. In addition we have a modern, well equipped Caravan and Camp Site that accommodates 30 tent pitches and 20 caravan stances with electrical hook-up. An additional bonus is that you will only be charged at our concession rates while staying on the site.

We guarantee unbeatable fun, value and choice when visiting one of Britain’s most modern and well-equipped sports facilities.
